Curly Girl Review: DevaCurl’s “DevaDryer”

“Joy to the curls” is what the note inside my mystery DevaCurl package said…and when I opened it, JOY it did bring! They had gifted me the limited edition Bright Lights, Big Curls kit which included the new DevaDryer, DevaFuser, Decandance No Poo and One Condition, along with a travel size styling cream. I was beyond ecstatic about this gift and if its even possible to love them more than I do already, well then I do! If you follow me on Instagram, ask for product advice, or have read my Curly Hair Regimen (here) then you know that DevaCurl is definitely on the top of my favorite hair products list. This was an awesome gift!

I’m sure you guys are curious to know how it works or if it was any good…well keep reading to find out my final thoughts on the new DevaDryer and fuser as well as pictures of my results!

The DevaDryer includes the DevaFuser hand, plus a concentrator nozzle. What makes this diffuser so special you ask? The innovative, hand shaped DevaFuser delivers 360-degree airflow to completely surround curls, even at the root which speeds up the drying process. The patented ergonomic design enhances your natural curls or waves, while creating body and lift due to the positioning at the crown. Unlike other diffusers, the gentle drying of the Devadryer and DevaFuser combined gives you a more defined and less frizzy head of curls.

The settings include a cool shot button, temperature, and power/speed button. One of my favorite features on the DevaDryer is that you can choose “cool” as one of the temperature settings. Other diffuser dryers only have the option of a cool shot, which is the button you have to hold down if you want cool air versus heat. However, with the DevaDryer, you have the option of pressing the cool shot button for a quick blast of cold air OR you can actually set it to cool air the whole time you’re using it; without having your finger go numb from having to hold down the button! This is an awesome feature for someone like myself, and here’s why – I usually prefer to let my hair air dry. I try to use as least heat as possible on my hair. However, in the winter I do opt for a diffuser because we all know how long air drying takes us curly folks, and going out with wet hair is not really an option…unless you want icicles for curls. I also use a diffuser to create quick volume when I don’t have the time to do my usual no-heat volume routine (side note: I will be blogging about that routine soon!) Which brings me to the cool setting feature, because I don’t like to use too much heat on my hair constantly, I’ll use the cool setting throughout the whole drying process. I love that they’ve included the choice of a cool setting on the new DevaDryer, this means I don’t have to hold the cool shot button down through the entire process!…After all it is the little things that count! Oh and another big plus is that the dryer is super light weight!

Okay, so now that you know all about the cool features, I’m sure you want to see some results! Am I right?!…Well here are my before and after photos:

On the left  is my hair after putting my styling products in and still some what wet (click here to see how I apply my product). Here’s a little tip: Try waiting for your hair to be semi dry before blasting it with a diffuser to prevent frizz from occurring. On the right is my hair after using the DevaFuser, it defiantly gave me defined curls with more volume!

Here’s how I used my DevaFuser to get my results: Flip your head upside down (this will help give you more volume at the roots) and begin to diffuse starting at the ends and lifting it up towards your roots as shown in the photos below. Repeat this step through out your entire head until dried.

Final thoughts: LOVE IT! The devafuser will definitely come in handy for me. I will probably be using it all winter long. I love how it keeps my curl definition and even enhanced it while giving it some volume. It’s easy to use, has useful settings and doesn’t weight a ton!

Structured Beauty

Have you ever bought an article of clothing that’s not something you would usually consider? Those purchases can either be a hit or miss. Sometimes I’ll buy something that’s not typically my style because I like to experiment with fashion. But sometimes after I’ve made that impulse purchase, I’ll tell myself what was I thinking?! I should’ve left that at the store where it belonged! However, that’s not always the case. Sometimes that purchase can be a hit and make it’s way to your list of faves! That was the case with this asymmetric slashed long sleeve white top from Missguided.

(btw sorry for the photo quality…I snapped some quick photos for you guys on my iPhone)

Top: Missguided

Jeans and Necklace: Forever21

Booties: H&M

Lipstick: Media by Mac Cosmetics

I love how structured the top is, yet it still shows off some curves. The solid white and mock neck made the perfect canvas for a statement necklace. The necklace I chose added a little bit of an edge to my look, along with the darker toned lipstick. I wore this outfit to work, so I opted for my booties to be a bit more comfy, as I’m on my feet all day. However, take this outfit from daytime to night by pairing it with waxed jeans or leather leggings and sexy pumps, along with a smokey eye perhaps and you’ll be ready to take the night!

Curly Girl Tutorial & Review: Camille Rose Naturals

Hello everyone! Sorry I’ve left you guys hanging and been M.I.A on my blog for a while. BUT, the important thing is I’m back in action and I have some new tutorials and reviews for you guys! Today, I’m reviewing the new line for Camille Rose Naturals. If you remember, I reviewed some of their products once before and was a fan (click here to check it out)…so I was excited to try out their new stuff! My package from Camille Rose Naturals included the following:

  • Sweet Ginger Cleansing Rinse with Castor & Aniseed oil.
  • Aloe Whipped Butter Gel with Aloe Vera & Macadamia Oil
  • Coconut Water Leave-In Detangling Hair Treatment

Now keep scrolling for a tutorial and my final thoughts on the new line…

So first thing’s first…get your wash on! (p.s. don’t mind my bare face and puffy eyes, I was a little sick this past weekend. And some of the blurry pics are do to my steamy shower haha). First, I washed my hair with the Sweet Ginger Cleansing Rinse. Start at your roots as you scrub your scalp, working your way down to the ends of your hair. Then I used my Camille Rose Naturals Coconut Water Penetrating Hair Treatment to condition my hair. I like to split my hair into two parts, and work the product through each half using a wide tooth comb to detangle along the way. After I’ve gotten all those pesky little knots out, I put a shower cap and leave the conditioner on for 15-30 minutes then rinse it off completely.

As for styling, while my hair was still soaking wet I parted it in half. Then applied the leave in conditioner and combed it through with a wide tooth comb. I repeated the same steps on the other half. Finally, I took a scoop of the Aloe Whipped Butter Gel and scrunched it upwards into my hair and continued to scrunch my hair all over. With the butter gel, a little goes a long way so be careful not to apply too much as you don’t want to weigh your hair down (That is, if you have the same hair type as myself. If you have thicker hair go ahead and apply a little more). Once you’re done scrunching your life away..haha flip that head back up! and now you just wait while your hair air dries. You can opt for a diffuser on the cool setting if you want to speed up the drying process.

Anddd… here are the final results after waiting for it to air dry, and a little blast of cool air from the diffuser:

The Aloe whipped butter gel elongated my curls, giving me more of a looser curl versus a tighter curl to show off more of my length. It’s nice to have the option to switch it up and give your curls a slightly different pattern. This product did not leave my hair stiff but nice and soft just the way I like!

Here’s my final thoughts on this product line:

Once again my FAVORITE thing about this line is the scent! Mmmm…everything smells so sweet, I have to keep reminding myself I can’t eat my hair. HAHA…what can I say I have a major sweet tooth! All jokes aside, this has to be by far my favorite scent out of all my products. Which is important to me since my hair is on my head and close to my nose (duh, you can now confirm I passed pre-k lol). My point is all day long I can smell my hair, so I hate it when I use a product that isn’t so appealing when it comes to the smell. Besides, don’t you just love it when the person next to you says out loud how tropical you smell and you’re just like thanks that would be my hair (does hair flip) hehe. Other than the scent, I loved that the rinse is sulfate-free and is infused with all these natural ingredients for moisture retention and slip. I really loved the Coconut Leave-In Hair Treatment. I always like to leave a little of conditioner in my hair after I wash, so this was perfect…it left my hair knot free and quite soft. As for the Aloe Whipped Butter Gel, I like how a little goes a long way with this product. Which is always a plus, because it means you get more for your money. It’s not something you have to keep constantly buying as its sure to last you a long time, and you can even use it for your more polished up-dos!

Check out my quick video on how I applied the product to style my hair!

My Curly Hair Regimen

What’s your hair routine?…What products do you use? has to be the most frequently asked questions when it comes to my hair. Well, my curly headed friends the secret is out!! This is way over due, but I am FINALLY giving you guys my step by step hair regimen. That’s right, you’re getting ALL the juicy details! So who’s excited to find out how I keep these golden curly tresses tamed?! …keep those fingers scrolling to find out!

(Before we get started, I would like to clarify that this is my natural curl pattern and this routine is what I use to enhance and tame my curls. Keep in mind that not everyone has the same curl type, so please do not be discourage if you do not achieve the same results. I am sharing my curly hair routine to simply inspire you to find your perfect curl).

Step #1: First I wash my hair with DevaCurl’s No-Poo. I concentrate more on the roots, making sure to scrub my scalp to loosen up any residue. When I am done scrubbing away, I move on to conditioning my hair with DevaCurl’s One Condition. Once I have applied the conditioner, I part my hair in half and start to finger detangle each section, adding more conditioner if needed. (note: if you are not about that finger detangling life, the next best thing to use would be a wide tooth comb to detangle your hair). After I finish getting all those pesky little knots out, I wash off the conditioner. BUT, I make sure not to fully rinse it out, as I like to leave a little conditioner in my hair. Then, once I’m done washing my hair and out the shower, I squeeze just a little of the excess water out. And I do mean it when I say just a little! I like to apply the product while my hair is some what soaking wet. (Here’s a tip: if you’re in a rush and want to speed up the drying process go ahead and dry your hair with a cotton t-shirt instead of a towel. This will eliminate frizz).

Step #2: While my hair is wet, I sporadically spray DevaCurl’s Set it Free mist throughout my hair.

Step #3: I apply a small amount of One N’ Only Argan Oil starting from the root to ends, combing it through with my fingers (Be careful not to apply too much as it will make your hair too greasy. With this product a little goes a long way).

Step #4: At this point, I grab my handy dandy Light Defining Gel from DevaCurl. First, I take a few pumps of the gel and smooth it onto my hair, from root to ends. I then flip my head upside down and let those tresses hang! While my head is flipped over, I take a few more pumps of gel and with a scrunching motion, I apply the gel onto my ends. I keep scrunching more gel onto my hair, working my way up all the way to the roots. I repeat this step until I feel I have evenly distributed the product all throughout my hair. When I’m all done applying the gel, I keep my head flipped upside down and go back to scrunching the heck out of my hair! (lol). I like my hair to be at its curliest state, so scrunching like crazy will help spring those bad boys right up!

Step 5: After I’m done applying all my products, I slowly flip my head upwards. Now, I just wait for my hair to air dry which takes FOREVER! If you’re in a rush you can go ahead and use a diffuser to speed up the drying process (I prefer to let it air dry). Lastly, after my hair is fully dried I flip my head upside down again and do one more round of scrunching. This removes the “cast” aka the stiffness created by the gel.

That’s all folks! That was my step by step curly hair regimen. Although, I do like to switch it up and experiment sometimes. I have other curly hair routines that consist of using different hair products that I like (I’ll share with you guys another time ;). However, this is my go-to routine. I can always depend on it when I don’t have the time to experiment or can’t risk not getting good results.

Until next time! XO

Dressed for Paradise

What does one wear when attending a wedding on the beach?…Well ladies there are a few options out there. I was recently invited to a destination wedding, and right away I knew I wanted to go with something light, flowy, and summery of course. All of those things screamed maxi dress to me. I began my hunt for the perfect maxi dress, to attend the wedding at the beautiful island of Punta Cana. My search didn’t take too long, and actually came to an end when I decided to check out the dresses on I came across a beautiful coral ombre peep-hole bust maxi dress, that I absolutely loved! Keep scrolling to see!

Dress: // Bracelet: Forever21

What I loved most about the dress was the color, coral is one of my favorite summer colors. It’s so vibrant and fun it just screams summer. The chiffon material was light and airy making it perfect for the beach. The two thigh high slits in the front of the dress allowed the breeze to circulate through the dress, creating an extra flowy effect. It also made for easy movement, sometimes when wearing a long dress that’s a bit tight at the bottom can feel restrictive. I was also in love with the top part of the dress. The peep-hole gave this dress a touch of sexy without revealing too much, making it classy enough to wear to a wedding. Other than a wedding, this dress can be worn for any summer events or a romantic dinner date.

I’m wearing a size small. FYI the dress was long so a shorty did have to get the dress hemmed…(haha). I got it hemmed at a length that I would still be able to alternate between flats and heels, as you can wear either with this dress.

I Hope I helped inspire anyone attending a summer wedding anytime soon! Until next time loves! xo

Punta Cana Diaries

Piña coladas, palm trees, and sand in between your toes…while the sun’s rays kiss your skin. Now that’s my idea of a perfect getaway! That’s exactly what I had the chance to enjoy during my vacationing in the beautiful Punta Cana in Dominican Republic. It was also a special trip as I got the chance to witness a loved one “tie the knot” right on the beach of Punta Cana. Oh yea…and I forgot to mention my boyfriend and I were also celebrating our Birthdays! That’s right hashtag team Taurus baby!! winks eye and flips hair. All of those celebrations made this trip so much more exciting, and led to an awesome time! I wanted to share some of those awesome moments with you guys! Check out these awesome views!…(have to love being surrounded by those beautiful palm trees and clear blue water!)

It’s a party…boat party that is! What an awesome “thank you” gift from the bride and groom. This made the list of one of my favorite moments in DR. We had a blast partying on the boat, as we drank, swam, and danced the afternoon away.

The beautiful wedding on the beach! It was an honor to be able to witness this special moment along with other loved ones.

Fashion Remix: One Skirt, Three Looks

Do you ever look in your closet and realize you’ve worn a certain piece only once or twice? Story of my life! As I was looking for an outfit the other day, it striked me that I have so many versatile pieces that I’ve only worn once. I hadn’t taken advantage of the fact I could create so many different looks around certain pieces. Therefore, I decided to challenge myself for now on, by seeing how many different looks for different occasions I could create using one of the pieces in my closet. For my first challenge I choose my faux leather midi skirt by Necessary Objects that I purchased at Century21 Department Stores. I created three different looks for three different agendas. Take a look!

1. Running Errands: I put together this comfy outfit which is ideal for any day time activities. Who said you can’t look cute while running some errands?! So for this first look, I paired the skirt with a graphic sweatshirt and my white converses creating a comfy and stylish look.

Sweatshirt: Forever21 // Skirt: Century21 Department Stores // Sneakers: Converses

2. Dinner Date: Whether you’re going on a hot date or just dinner and cocktails with the gals, this outfit would be great. I paired the skirt with a black (going for that all black errthing look) tank top which had a cool neckline, keeping things interesting. I added a silver statement necklace and wore laced up wedges to give this look a bit of an edge.

Top: Forever21 // Necklace: Forever21 // Skirt: Century21 Department Stores

 3. Night Out: Throw on a little crop top, some chunky gold bling, and some sexy strappy heels and voila!…You have yourself a perfect outfit for the party scene!

Crop top: Cotton On // Necklace: Century21 Department Stores // Bracelet: Forever21 // Skirt: Century21 Department Stores // Shoes: Call It Spring

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you guys enjoyed this edition of “Fashion Remix” there will be more to come!
